It’s been 122 years since the antimatter bombs fell. No one seems to know who or what caused it. And does it really matter? There’s enough trying to kill people out here without worrying about the terrible decisions of ancient politicians. Hunger, dehydration, storms, radiated creatures, raiders … in Dust GPT, death is constantly staring you down like you owe it an apology.
Most people are living one crumb to the next, hoping to avoid catching lead in the meantime. It’s not what you might call a good life. But hey … it’s better than not having life at all, right?
But there are some people who realize humans are stronger together. They’re building settlements. They’re trading, raiding, or downright conquering other settlements, too.
And then, there’s you. Exploring this world as a lone wanderer, looking to build for yourself a stable, permanent home. And there are others out there who will join you, too, if you’ll let them … or if you’ll make them.
Will you be known as a hero, or a villain? Are you going to be a benevolent mayor, a commanding monarch, a bloodthirsty dictator, or something else entirely? That’s a decision only you can make in Dust GPT.
Dust GPT: A post-apocalyptic ‘civilization rebuilder’
In Dust GPT, you take on the role of a post-apocalyptic survivor with a dream: to build a settlement that can stand up to all the horrors of the wasteland. Will it provide safe harbor to the innocent? Or serve as a base of operations from which you can terrorize the wasteland into submission?
This won’t be an easy task, of course. You’ll need a place to call home. It helps to find others to join your cause. You’ll need resources, tools, and a vision. Oh, and you don’t want to skimp on the guns or ammunition, either.
As you explore, recruit others to your cause, and build, you’ll progress through various stages of society. How far you go is entirely up to you. From a small city-state to a bustling colony on a distant world, there’s no limit to what you can achieve in Dust GPT, so long as you can continue overcoming numerous obstacles anyway.
A text-based narrative adventure powered by generative AI
Dust GPT is a game played entirely through generative AI text. You type in whatever you want to do or say next, and the AI sculpts an adventure from there, following rules and parameters designed by Maconi Games.
Currently, Dust GPT is playable only at ChatGPT, though we’re planning on making it available on other AI platforms in the future. Dust GPT is entirely free to play, though we suggest subscribing to ChatGPT for the best experience—you’ll run into usage limits more regularly if you’re not subscribed.

We also recommend saving your Book of Dust—a text document that works as your game’s save file—into Google Docs or even just a notepad. You may end up reaching a point where your chat stops working or gets too laggy to keep playing. If that happens, you can start a new Dust GPT chat and paste your Book of Dust to continue your adventure right from where you left off (hopefully with minimal jank)
